Gnome-a-licious Mug Cosy - Crochet Pattern UK Terms
Welcome to my Gnome-a-licious Mug Cosy crochet pattern,
This Mug Cosy is designed to keep your hands comfy while holding your Mug. Kind of like a hug for your hands which is why they are often called mug hugs. This one has a cheeky little gnome design on the outside who sometimes likes to take little sips from your yummy drink.
I’m a big fan of using thermal mugs, and while it keeps my Mocha nice and warm for a longer time the outside can be rather cold on my hands. To help with this my little Gnome-a-licious Mug Cosy now keeps my hands warm while the thermal mug keeps my drink warm. You can even make them a little bigger to put on your thermos bottle or drink bottles.
This Mug Cosy can be personalise to suit any occasion just by changing the colours. Create a Gnome-a-licious mug cosy to suit every special moment or season in your life.

The pattern is for the basic style cosy with 3 gnomes on it and comes with 2 different attachment options. I have included photos of some ways you can personalise them with a little surface crochet and embroidery.
Finished Size: Approximately 22cm long x 8cm wide with the yarn requirements mentioned in the pattern. This is a cosy for a standard size mug.
Gauge: This is determined by your first row when you check if it fits your mug or cup. Increasing and decreasing options are in the pattern to adjust to your required fit.
Skill Level: Confident Beginner looking to step up their skills (You need to have a sound knowledge of basic crochet stitches including increase and decreasing and be a able to read a pattern) There is a table with stitch abbreviations and instructions to help you. There is a little bit of Mosaic crochet in this pattern but the photos should be able to help you.
You’ll need:
- 3mm or 3.5mm crochet hook.
- Yarn needle, Scissors, Stitch Markers
Yarn: I used Scheepjes Catona 50gm /125m cotton which I feel is about a 6ply yarn.
I recommend using a 6ply to 8ply yarn—Different Ply will vary the size when finished.
Colour 1 (C1) = Background x 50gms
Colour 2 (C2) = Hat x 10gms
Colour 3 (C3) = Nose x 10gms
Colour 4 (C4) = Beard (should be white) x 10gms
Colour 5 (C5) = Feet and Hat Pom Pom x 10gms
These quantities should make 2 to 3 mug cosy's.
